CORE Values

Core Values

A core value is defined as something that represent an individuals highest priorities, deeb beliefs, and core fundamental driving forces. However, I have never thought about my core values in depth. Obviously I have morals, and expectations for myself and those around me, but I have never thought about the actual words to describe what keep me going.

Respect: Wether it be respect for myself, respect for others, or respect for something, this is the most important trait that I look for in other people. When I see others demonstrating the type of respect I think is necessary, it makes me respect them more as a person. Surrounding myself with people who have so much respect for not only the people around them, but also the things around them is a very healthy way to live. I have, unfortunately, learned this the hard way. Putting up with disrespect from other people, as I've learned, is deteriorating to ones self, which is why I put so much importance into the respect that my friends and family have for others.

Appreciation: Appreciation is a very big character trait that I live by. As I've gotten older, I've become more apparent to all the little things people do for me. I grew to learn appreciation from my mom. She is, in all honesty, one of the kindest people I've ever met, and would do anything for anyone. She is also a very grateful person who does not care about materialistic things, but more about experiencing things. She taught me to be appreciative of everything thing I do and get to experience in my life, and to never take anything for granted. I know it sounds cheesy, but she is a role model for how I want to live my life when I'm older. I am so appreciative that I have a mother like her who can teach me the importance of appreciation not by words, but just by her actions.

Independence: Lastly, I believe in-dependability is the most important character trait to have. Being a middle child, I have learned how to figure things out on my own. Not always having a parent to help me or console me has not always been easy, but in the scheme of things, it helped me learn how to do things on my own. Now, having siblings definitely makes it easier to make friends or go places without my parents because I know they're always by my side, but it has taught me the importance of efficiency and other life skills necessary when I leave for college, or move out and get my own house. Don't get me wrong, I have two supportive and loving parents, but with them being busy almost all the time, I have learned how to be on my own. It was not easy to adapt to this at first, especially when I was in a tough situation or didn't know what the right thing to do was, however, with their guidance and also my own knowledge, I have learned the importance of self-motivation and why being an independent person is not at all a bad thing.
